Liverpool’s Brendan Rodgers failed to secure any new players during the January transfer window and while other of their main rivals of the Premier League did manage to strengthen the squad, it is not the case of Liverpool which are fighting on the top 5 spots of the top tier league in England.
Mohamed Salah and Yevlen Konoplyanka were the 2 main targets that Liverpool was attempting to bring into the squad but both deals ultimately collapsed. Liverpool did manage to offload some of their players including: Adam Morgan, Tiago Llori, Craig Roddan and Michael Ngoo either on loan to a different club or simple released on a free deal.
The side of Brendan Rodgers has been getting fairly disappointing results on some of their more recent matches as they had to settle with a draw against West Bromwich and some weeks prior they dropped more points with a 2-2 draw against Aston Villa.
This puts into question on how well they will be able to do when they have to face off against Arsenal and against Manchester United in March. The Premier League title still remains in their reach but if they continue on dropping points against middle section teams on the Premier League.
During the time that the transfer window remained opened the managing director of Liverpool Ian Ayre flew to Ukraine trying to secure the services of Yevhen Konoplyanka but nothing could be secured and Brendan Rodgers stated that the situation was complicated and could not make the deal.
“There’s obviously an interest in the player but there’s no update.
“We’ll see how it evolves. It is obviously a little complicated but the staff that are over there have done brilliant work in terms of giving us every chance to get a player. We’ve had a list with a number of players on it, so we’ll see how it develops later.” Rodgers said.
