Liverpool midfielder Steven Gerrard has said that this is too early in the season to start thinking about titles. Liverpool have not finished in the top four for the last four seasons, but they have made a tremendous start to this campaign.
They are second in the table only a couple of points behind Arsenal, which has given their fans hope that they can lift the Premier league title for the first time in their history. Liverpool have won numerous league titles, but never the Premier league title in their illustrious history.
Gerrard has stated that the season is just over 10 matches old and one should not start in about winning the title at this position. The Christmas period is just a month away and teams usually competing for the title at this stage usually remain as competitors towards the end as well.
The brilliant start to the season has largely been built on the form of Sturridge and Suarez, while the lack of distracting midweek European matches has also been a factor as well. Unibet have now made them third-favourites for the title.
The 33-year-old has also stated that he would want to win the title before he retires. “I think it’s important for me as captain of the team not to raise expectations. When you’re talking about winning titles, it’s premature, it’s too early, and I don’t want to get anyone’s hopes up. That would be unfair. Our dream and our plan at the beginning of the season was to break into the top four. We’re slightly ahead of where we thought we’d be,” said Gerrard.
Gerrard has won every major title including the Champions league with Liverpool. He has a contract until the next summer. Liverpool have already had crucial victories over the likes of Manchester United, but they have lost to Arsenal in a big match recently.
