Liverpool have suffered a major setback at a crucial stage in the season with the news that midfielder Steven Gerrard has suffered a potential hamstring injury that could keep him out for a few weeks of action.
This injury comes at a time when Liverpool are awaiting crucial matches in the Europa League and FA Cup. Gerrard is in his final season at Liverpool as it has already been announced that the iconic midfielder will be joining LA Galaxy at the end of the season. Liverpool are hoping to send him out on a high by lifting the FA Cup. The 2-1 win over Crystal Palace has put the club in the quarter-finals of the competition.
Even though Gerrard has been cautiously used by Brendan Rodgers so as to prevent tiredness from setting in, the 34-year-old will be absent for a crucial period. After a lot of struggles in the first half of the season, Liverpool are going through their best spell of the campaign. The club has not suffered the league defeat since the 3-0 thrashing at Old Trafford, while they have managed four wins out of the last five. This momentum can be maintained with a fully fit squad and now it will be a challenge to see how Brendan Rodgers responds to the injury.
“Unfortunately, he (Gerrard) felt his hamstring towards the end of the game and he is having a scan this morning and we are just waiting for results to come back.We are monitoring Raheem. He missed a game the other night but we will see how he is.Hopefully they will both be fit for the weekend and that the scans (on Gerrard) won’t show too much. However, we do not have the results yet so I can’t say too much,” said Rodgers.
