Along with Luis Suarez, there has been another dominant figure throughout the entire season which is one of the main reasons on why Liverpool still continues making a genuine charge at the top of the Premier League and that player is Steven Gerrard.
Steven Gerrard’s performances can be evidenced by one of his recent pieces of silverware as he was awarded with the PFA Player of the Month Award in March. The veteran midfielder had to share the award with Luis Suarez.
Unfortunately for Gerrard, not everything has been a rollercoaster ride to the top as a mistake from him allowed Demba Ba to score the opening goal of the match during Liverpool’s match against Chelsea. Liverpool hosted Chelsea at Anfield Road and goals from Demba Ba and Willian gave the team of Jose Mourinho, the triumph.
This defeat allows Manchester City and Chelsea to keep their hopes of winning the Premier League alive.
Gerrard was receiving a short pass in the midfield but he fell and gave Demba Ba, the opportunity for him to add another goal to his tally as he only had the goalkeeper left to beat and made no mistake in slipping it past Simon Mignolet.
Liverpool’s defeat cannot only be blamed on Gerrard as the team of Brendan Rodgers struggled to implant their usual playing style on the defensive minded Chelsea and a superb performance from Mark Schwarzer maintains Chelsea Premier League title hopes alive.
The Premier League is reaching its last few matches of the season before the champions can be crowned but all the signs are aiming towards a dramatic final encounter which will be the deciding factor on which club will be lifting the silverware.
